Well, this comm looks kind of dead but here I go anyway.
Well, since I always seem to miss the wank, I need to get this off my chest.
Warning: This is related to the recent spoilers floating around driving the fandom batshit insane.
Okay, how come that when a certain ship is confirmed as canon and the fans of this ship (which is considered unpopular-Oh screw it, I'm talking about Kataang and Maiko) wish to rejoice in an onscreen kiss or shippy interaction, they are brutally berated for "gloating" and "rubbing it in" and generally being called big d-bags who are being unnecessarily cruel to the poor "victims" who are suffering while their fanon!ship's base takes another blow from what most people call reality. (And yes, Zutarians are the ones I've seen it the most and worst from)
Hmm...wow. Being "cruel" and "gloating"?? Really now. (Insert Shipper community) are just sweet innocent victims??
Where was all this defense way back in S1? Or 2? Or, hell, how about anytime pre season 3? I remember, (and can dig up the posts to prove it) repeatedly being told not to count my chickens before they hatch whenever the subject approched Kataang. Oh yes, comments varied from "STFU, Kataang is pedo/sux" to "there's a long way to go/nothing's written in stone/the writers know what we want" Oh, as for Mai/Maiko...well, pretty much all of Avatar fandom hates on that. And I don't want to hear excuses. It's okay to call Mai and ugly. gold digging, cheese-smelling cunt with sand in her vagina and a penis but God fordid anyone saying anything about any other character like that! That would be sexist/trollish. However, it is considered funny and met with good humour to compare Antarctica/everything you hate to Mai's Vagina. Real mature.
Alas, this isn't about Mai's Vagina (which has crabs!) or the hypocrasy of and oxymoron of a Zutara victim. What I'm trying to say, is that this fandom kind of fails at feeling like fans. The
majority, no the loudest, of this fandom suffers from straight up bipolar INSANITY! We love Zuko. Zuko starts to go through character development. We hate him. We love Bryke for giving us foreshadowing that spells out the general outcome, yet does this in an unexpected and entertaining way. However, when the ending we all knew was coming happens, we hate them and their crappy writing. We love Katara's waterbending, Katara's overpowered. We love/hate Aang for being cute, we hate/love Aang for being serious. The list goes on and on. Now, the great thing about literature is that it is subjective. Which means people basically get different things out of the same story. Avatar is so great because it can be enjoyed on so many different levels. Come on, we all like different aspects of the same show and dislike others. That's what you're supposed to do. Just because the majority of one part of the fandom likes one thing and hates the other doesn't mean the rest of us have to follow suit! We all enjoy Avatar for different reasons.
My point, is that one fan may like something different from you. Instead of bashing them or their pairing/character/lifestyle/etc. just shut up. We have been reduced to fangasm/wank about stuff in our own comms because people can't be civil enough to respect others opinions without resorting to a huge wankfest. What's a no-no for certain characters is A-OK for the less popular ones. I for one, enjoy shipping, it's just part of the whole fan experiance. Usually, fandoms let you discuss it. Unfortunately, Avatar fandom is so bitter and snarky that it's either their way or GTFO.
Which is kind of sad for all the people who are mature and capapble enough to discuss aspects of the show they enjoyed or did not enjoy, but was ruined by the more sensitive members.
I don't know. I'm just real sick of this fandom and their fights. It's Bryke's show. They are the one's who they are writing it for. Not you or your friends. If you think you can do it better, that's what fanfiction is for. I mean, endings are always a dissappointment. BECAUSE it's the ENDING. However, all this wank is ridiculous. It's kind of ruining it, actually.
Grammer? Spelling? I think my 13 page English research project paper has it. =_=
